After new year, chinese new year, I introduce lao ( crazy ) new year…. It s also new year in Thailand, but I happen to be here so….

Lao new year coincide with the return of the rainee season, so it s also called the water festival. As for the boat racing festival, lao new year is a three day party, mostly happening during the day where everybody get pissed on beerlao and jhonny walker in the streets of vientiane… But as it is the water festival, one of the game is to throw water one at each other. I have heard about it and was already thinking about those fun kids with waterguns shooting each others… but far from that, it s war out there….

young and old lao regrouping in small commando grop, on back of picks up or on street side, are preparing their bomb and guns wih big bins of water supply, and often using the bin itself as a water bomb !!!!! well it s simply impossible not to get soaking wet and it s even super dangerous to drive around the city… even more by motorbike…. you also add to that, painted water and flour… and you arrive at this…

All around this of course, music, girls and boys dancing soaking wet and screaming at each car passing trying to get they targets even more wet….

As a sign of the festival, in the middle of the day saturday, a terrific rain felt over the city… 25 minutes of hardcore waterfalls all around the city…. celebration of water…
